Design a board game which takes a complex topic and makes it understandable through simple mechanics
Descent is a two-player board game exploring concepts surrounding deep sea exploration and discovery, with the end goal of making the first discovery in the deepest, least explored zone of the ocean. As they progress, each player must make decisions to balance their own fame and fortune, as well as sabotage the other player’s expedition. Fame and fortune can be obtained through discoveries, which are earned through a risk/reward decision, and events, which bring positive or negative random factors onto the board.
The visual language of the game was inspired by the height of intrigue surrounding deep sea exploration in the 1800s, incorporating elements of Art Nouveu and the early science fiction aesthetic of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
